The Wonders of Harav Yitzchack Kadouri

84 The Rav amidst great concentration The officer who came back to life My good friend, Rav Shimon Mellul, who could possibly be the one closest to the Rav, tells us another story. One day, sometime in , the daughter of Harav Ovadiah Yosef came to the house of the Rav, along with the father of a high-ranking army of¿cer who had been seriously wounded during a routine maneuver. A stray projectile had entered his head and he now lay unconscious in the Tel Hashomer Hospital. The father asked the Rav for a blessing that his son should be able to function and walk again. Cries and tears accentuated his story, as the Rav and others in the room quietly listened to every word. The Rav pulled out a special amulet that he written, a group of seven, and told the father exactly how to use them. Many people had merited salvation after using these amulets. (ach day, he was to dip one of the seven amulets in liquid, and rub it over the unconscious of¿- cer’s body and lips. On the seventh day, he was to wrap all seven in a cloth and place them underneath the pillow of his son. The father did everything exactly the way that the Rav instructed him to do. Five days passed, and the of¿cer stirred. (veryone rejoiced. He couldn’t speak or move, but he was awake. Two days later, the father began putting the amulets under his son’s pil- low. Alas, after the nurse changed the linens, the amulets were nowhere to be found. The son fell back unconscious. The father, ¿lled with fear and dread, came again to the Rav, asking him for amulets once again. The Rav smiled and answered the anxious father, “You do not need them. Go back to your son and see for yourself that he has already woken up and is back to himself again.” Overjoyed, the father went back to the hospital and was welcomed by the members of his family, who told him how his son had woken up, managed to move, and even said a few words. Some days later, the of¿cer was transferred to the /evinstein Rehabilitation Institute for a short period of time. There he quickly returned to his former self. As we say in our daily prayers, “He Who heals the sick and frees those enslaved.”
