Mr. Tsaphdia told the Rav that he was prepared to rent a Concorde plane for the Rav’s trip, the fastest passenger airplane available, but he had the following dif¿culty. Because of its tremendous speed, only certain air¿elds were equipped to deal with its landing. Israel did not have a long enough runway to allow the plane to land. Only an airstrip like the one in Paris had the appropriate length. If the Rav would come to Paris, the time of his trip would be cut in half. To Mr. Tsaphdia’s chagrin, though, the Rav said that the geographic distance was too great for him to travel. Amazingly enough, at the termination of Shabbat, after the Rav made Ha- vdalah (to distinguish between Shabbat and weekday) , the phone rang. On the other end of the line was one of the Rav’s close friends, who asked the Rav to be the Sandek at a circumcision in France, on the upcoming Tuesday. The Rav agreed, as he always did when offered this great honor. On Tuesday, the Rav arrived in France, where he was welcomed amidst joy and song.
