This was done on the advice of the Ben Ish Chai zt”l. When asked by the wealthy philanthropist, Yosef Avra- ham Shalom z”l, whether he should build a hospital in their home town of Baghdad, the Ben Ish Chai advised him that instead of building a hospital, it would better to build a yeshiva, and in the merit of the Torah learnt there, there ZRXOGQ¶W EH DQ\ QHHG IRU D KRVSLWDO 7KH Ben Ish Chai also told him to build it in Jerusalem, as he foresaw the destruction of the communities in Iraq. This is what eventually transpired. In 1950, more than a hundred thousand -HZV ÀHG ,UDT DQG LPPLJUDWHG WR ,VUDHO DV D UHVXOW RI WKH SHUVHFXWLRQV LQVWLJD - ted by the evil Rashid Ali (may his name be wiped out.) All the members of Yeshivat Ohel Moed joined the Yeshivat Porat Yosef in their new building.
