Completing the Talmud at seventeen The following story was personally told by the Rav to his family. Sometime between the festivals of Passover and Shavuoth in 1900, when the Rav was seventeen years old, he completed the entire Talmud. In honor of the occasion, his father made a large feast and invited the Rabbis and Sages of Baghdad, as well as other distinguished guests, to celebrate the important milestone in the Diba home. During the meal, the young Yitzchak was asked to deliver a discourse in honor of his completion. He astounded the listeners with his beautiful address, with words of wisdom continuing to pour forth, keeping the listeners spell- bound and glued to their chairs.
