120 he found a small bag. It was full of cut ¿ngernails (which according to Jewish law contain ritual impurity.) Apparently, a neighbor had thrown the bag of accumulated ¿ngernails into the store. The silversmith burned the bag (as mentioned in Kabbalah) and sure enough, everything returned to normal. This was all in tribute to the spiritual eyesight of the Rav. Removing the impediment to having children I heard the following story from Rabbi Moshe Nimni, who saw it with his own eyes. I chose to include this story, from amongst he thousands of stories for a reason. Perhaps dif¿cult to digest, it should serve to awaken us from our materialistic stupor and strengthen us in doing what G-d wants from us. The Rav visited his righteous wife, Rabbanit Sarah, while she was hospita- lized. Accompanied by Rav Moshe, the Rav walked slowly past the nurse’s station, on the way to his wife’s room, when he was approached by the head nurse. She asked the Rav for a blessing to have children. The Rav looked straight at her and said, “You are married ¿fteen years and still don’t have children.” The nurse almost fainted on the spot. How did the Rav know? While she was still in a daze, the Rav told her, that before her present marriage, she had been engaged to a different boy. A week before they were supposed to be married, she had called it off. As a sign of revenge, her former boyfriend took a bird, killed it, and buried it in an earthenware container seven meters away from the entrance to the building she had been living in. This was a form of witchcraft, to prevent her from having good fortune in the future. “If you will do as I say,” said the Rav, “you will soon be blessed with children, and merit to hold a baby boy in your arms, with the help of G-d.” The Rav instructed her After ¿fteen years without children, the Rav was honored to be the Sandek
