The Rav motioned for me to bend over so that he could bless me. I leaned over, and the Rav began to laugh, the sound of which still resounds in my ears until today. The Rav had perceived my innocent and whole-hearted intentions, and proceeded to bless me with all of the blessings of the Torah. The miracle of the oil Another story which demonstrates the far-seeing vision of the Rav was told by the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yonah Metzgar shlita, at a thirtieth day memorial gathering for the Rav. At the end of one vacation, a young yeshiva student was asked to deliver a sum of money to a family member in Jerusalem, after he returned to his yeshiva. “With pleasure,” he said, adding, “It is a big mitzvah, an act of kindness.” He took the envelope of money and put it in his suitcase. Arriving late at night in the yeshiva, he put the envelope in his per- sonal locker, and fell asleep, his thoughts shifting between apprehension for the new schedule and gratitude for the opportunity to attend a yeshiva. A long day of learning awaited him the next day, as well as the mitzvah of bringing the envelope to its appropriate destination, which he planned on doing the next evening.
