The Rav was the only one in the group who did not wear the customary clothing of the Kab- balists. Such clothing was considered a sign of distinction, and worn only by Rabbis well-versed in Kabbalah. Places of study After the destruction of Yeshivat Porat Yosef by the Jordanian legions in D GLI¿FXOW SHULRG HQVXHG IRU WKH .DEEDOLVWV 7KH \HVKLYD KDG WR ¿QG QHZ places where they could study. They dispersed amongst the various synago- gues around Jerusalem. The unmarried students soon began learning in the 7]R¿RI synagogue in the Bucharim-Beit Yisrael neighborhood, and the mar- ried students, along with the Kabbalists, used the Shoshanim LeDavid syna- gogue. Between the years 1948 to 1980, the Rav would learn every morning in the Shoshanim LeDavid synagogue and received a meager stipend. Without fail, every month, after receiving the stipend, he would return some of the money to the yeshiva, explaining that very often he would arrive late and did not want to have any trace of theft in his possession. The reason why he would come late was because people would accompany him on his way to the yeshiva and request berachot (blessings) . Thus, in order not to be held Heavenly accoun- table, he kept track of those lost minutes and returned part of his stipend. In the afternoon, the Rav would learn in the Yiskerof synagogue on David
