256 Meeting the ‘Babi Sali’ Here is the place to mention the connection the Rav had with the ‘Babi Sali,’ Harav Yisrael Abuchatzeirah zt”l. The two would meet in the home of the Rav in Jerusalem, and would learn and pray for the welfare of the nation and their ultimate redemption. Those close to the Rav said that once, when the two met, the ‘Babi Sali’ asked the Rav to bless him, whereupon the Rav asked the ‘Babi Sali’ for his bles- sing. Each one honored the other, and so they decided that they should bless each other at the same time. While mentioning the ‘Babi Sali,’ I want to share a story I heard, tying in the words of the ‘Babi Sali’ that he said before he passed away: May my pas- sing atone for all of Israel. May my passing atone for all of Israel The Admor ‘Babi Sali’ would arrange a Hilulah on the yahrzeit of many great tzaddikim, inviting many to join a small meal in their honor. Towards the end of his life, while participating in one such Hilulah , some obser- vers noticed that he was sitting in an unusual manner. Four close family members questioned the Rav why he appeared to be sitting in an uncomfortable position, something out of character. The answer they received was a quote from the verse describing the close bond Yaakov had with his youngest son, Binyamin, “And his soul was bound up with his.” He did not reveal the intent of these words.
