208 With the Rav’s close disciple, Harav Yosef Chaim Zakai shlita, on Tu bi’Shevat The second dream… and they walked together After an exhausting day, I closed my tired eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep. I dreamt that I saw my teacher and mas- ter, Harav Kadouri, who appeared in all of his splendor and glory. He looked tall, sporting a long white beard. He asked me to accompany him, and took my hand in his. We began to briskly walk together. Then I saw that we were facing a huge walkway, with gigantic steps. I asked the Rav, “How can we possibly climb up those gigantic steps?” The Rav answered, “Don’t worry. We will easily ascend, with G-d’s help.” With giant strides, we quickly began our ascent. The Rav pulled me as we walked, and we easily climbed upwards. I asked the Rav, “Where are we headed to?” The Rav smiled, but said nothing. As the verse states, “And they walked together.” We ascended, all the while the Rav, who seemed young and at the height of his glory, vigorously assisting my climb, encouraging me along, just as he did in previous years. After a long, exhausting climb, we arrived at the summit, where someone was waiting for us. I do not know or remember who it was, or even whether it was an angel or a man. Apparently, I was not deemed worthy of seeing his face. He turned to the Rav and said, “There are three paths to take. The one to the left is not one worthy for the Rav. The one straight ahead, no one goes in or out. And the one to the right, if his honor wishes, he may enter there.” At that very moment, the Rav let go of my hand and strode forward to the path on the right, standing at its entrance. Out of fright, I called to the Rav, “Why does the Rav leave me all alone?” The Rav smiled, but said not a word, motioning
