198 The true assessment of a tzaddik is after death It was extremely dif¿cult to transport the body of the Rav through the expectant crowd, as they wished to be near him in those ¿nal moments. Soon, his body would be interred and brought to rest, and many wanted to touch or at least be within hands reach of the tzaddik’s bier. As our sages have taught us, a tzaddik, after he passes away, is still ‘alive.’ He still continues to pray and advocate on our behalf. This is so vital to our existence, especially in days such as ours, where the threats of nuclear warfare, terrorist attacks, international unrest and anti-Israel policies are being pursued at a frightening pace. When the security of our nation seems to be in jeopardy, or our eco- nomic base appears to be shaky, we turn our eyes heavenward.
