The Wonders of Harav Yitzchack Kadouri
138 He Who grants wisdom to man… Mr. M. tells us how he had been married without children for over eleven years. All the tests showed that he was indeed infertile. As modern medicine advanced, he learned that there was indeed hope. He Who grants wisdom to man, enlightened man’s eyes to see the wonders of His creation. Scientists had developed procedures to perform in vitro fertilization, and many couples now began to bene¿t from their research. He and his wife reached a deci- sion. They set an appointment by Professor Levin in the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hos- pital in Jerusalem and came for their scheduled consultation. The procedure was to include general anesthesia and surgery. Professor Levin stressed the painful reco- very period afterwards, and both spouses agreed to go ahead with the procedure and performed preliminary testing. The date of the surgery rapidly approached. Both husband and wife were wheeled into adjacent operating rooms, each one praying to awaken from their surgery and see positive results. Mr. M. awoke, in agony, but looking forward to G-d’s help and hoping to hold his own child in some nine months time. In the adjoining room, his wife lay in a similar state of being. Their hope soon turned to disappointment, though; as they were told that the results did not appear positive. All they could hope for was that next time it would be more successful. More tests, more agony, and the Professor rescheduled them for another opera- tion. “I heard of an elder Kabbalist, Rav Yitzchak Kadouri, and I decided to ask the Rav for a blessing,” said Mr. M. “On the day of the surgery, I came to the house of the Rav, saying that I urgently needed to speak to the Rav. I was admitted into his room, and I bent forward to tell the Rav of my plight. I told him the procedures we went through and what we would be doing later that day. The Rav blessed me and added cryptically, ‘You should merit having a baby boy, without going through the procedure.’ I didn’t understand. I went to the hospital and prepared myself for the operating room. The doctors and the anesthesiologist readied themselves. Then, right before they were about to inject me, I had a sudden Àash of inspiration. I asked the head nurse if any of the previous cells that had been removed from me were still viable. She answered that she had no idea, but Professor Levin would be the one to ask. At that very moment, Professor Levin entered the room. I summoned my last ounce of strength and asked the Professor if there were any cells in cold storage left from the previous surgery. The Professor told the assembled team to wait just a few minutes as he went to check the laboratory. Within two minutes he reappeared, and ordered me to get up. ‘You are free to go. We have enough cells to work with.’ I couldn’t believe my ears. I heard the hallowed voice of the Rav reverberating with his prediction, ‘without going through the procedure.’ I was overjoyed. I left the hospital and the next day was informed that the procedure had been successful. An embryo had begun to develop, and within a few days, they implanted the test tube baby. My wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy, just as the Rav said, without me going through another procedure. May this child grow up to Torah, chuppah, and good deeds, to the pleasure and content of his parents and all of his family, Amen.
