Rav Kolenimus took it upon himself to approach the King, even admitting to being the murderer, if necessary. When he arrived at the palace, he asked for one thing, to be brought the body of the dead child. It was the ¿rst day of Passover. The body was brought, and Rav Koleni- mus wrote on a piece of parchment a holy Name of G-d and placed the parchment on the forehead of the child. He then announced, “Now point to the real murderer,” whereupon the dead child lifted his hand and pointed at one of the servants of the King, saying, “He killed me in order to wipe out all the Jews.” Shocked, the King had the servant killed and the decree abolished, and the Jews celebrated the festival of Passover amidst great joy and freedom. However, Rav Kolenimus felt that he desecrated the holiness of the festi- val by writing on the parchment. He commanded his household that when he would die, no tombstone should be put over his grave, and every Jew who would visit the cemetery should ‘stone’ his tomb (as punishment for what he did.)
